Travelpost: a long weekend in the UK
Aug. 20th, 2016 06:35 pmSo, hey, I went to Ipswich last weekend and I finally sorted out photos! I met up with
amberdreams to do the "Pig Trail": we walked all over town to find the Pigs Gone Wild art sculptures (one of which was designed and painted by AM herself!!)
I doubt I could have made the trip with my injured calf if I had planned it by bus, but fortunately I had decided to try a different mode of transport and I had booked a cabin on the nightboat, so I could at least put my leg up during the journey.
But first my crutches and I had to make it on a train to the edge of the Netherlands to catch that ferry to Harwich.
THURSDAY AUGUST 11: TRAVELDAY

Mom brought me to the station in Z., where I got on the train to Rotterdam. There I had about 6 minutes to get from platform 14 to 1, which was nervewracking on crutches but I managed \o/ This got me to Hoek van Holland Haven (Hook of Holland Harbour) - see the massive ship behind the station? (in the background on the left). It was windy!

The lovely people of Stenaline saw me hobbling along and offered me a ride from customs to get to the ship (a long ass hallway comparable to gates at airports). An awesome lady drove me full speed to the edge of the walkway. \o/

The ferry has 12 decks; the lower ones are for cars and trucks, the upper ones have cabins and passenger lounges. I had an indoor cabin on deck 11 (no window, but look how efficient and adorable!)

After freshening up, I took the elevator down to the entertainment deck.

For dinner I had a chicken/mushroom pie and the kind staff helped me get it to the table. After eating I did a quick exploration of the ship and admired the view from the 'sundeck'(which had a basketball court!) before turning in for the night.
FRIDAY AUGUST 12: HARWICH TO IPSWICH

Goodmorning! The ferry arrived at Harwich at about 06:30 local time. An hour before hand the passengers had been woken up to the sound of 'Don't worry be happy'. (no comment;) Due to the walkway being under reconstruction, there was a busservice from the lower cardeck right up to the arrival's hall: very convenient for me and my crutches. Right behind customs is the trainstation, where I got on a train to Manningtree. Hello, UK!

*Chinhands*

amberdreams picked me up at the station and drove me to her house, where I was welcomed in the guestroom fangirl style <3. After settling in, freshening up and a bit of chatting, we went outside for some pig hunting!
Can you spot our first pig? It's right behind the Ipswich Museum...

This is Salt by Mik Richardson. [01] - plus Amber and mine shadows and reflection :-D

See? Ipswich! Besides the adult pigs there were also junior pigs, painted by several schools. These were indoors or behind glass so often hard to photograph. Here are, from left to right: Katie The Rainbow Pig, Pig in Camp Blanket (by the Suffolk Scouts;) and Piggy in the Meadow at Crown Pools.

Spider-Pig! by Jenny Leonard [02]

In front of the busstation: A Pig's Got To Travel by Nick Murley [03], and
in the middle of town square, a place of honour in front of Town Hall
The Swinions by
amberdreams \o/ [04]

I GOT A SELFIE WITH THE ARTIST!!
On the right: Ipswich Town Hall.

More animal spotting: look what's standing on top of the Lion Hotel.... Haha!

Three more junior pigs inside of Town Hall: this is Poppy Pig.

My absolute favorite junior pig: When Pigs Fly by Britannia Primary School. Each child got to draw their own little piggy. Such awesome imagination, look at that little Bee-piggy!! <3<3 (I took a lot of close-ups to capture them all, so so cool)

Third piggy: Phelix. After Town Hall we had a short break with a glass ofpig's blood berry juice and Victoria Sponge Cake. As you do;)
Pigs Can Fly by Ross White. Amazing. [05]
From Sailmakers Mall we move on to St. Lawrence Church
In St. Lawrence Church we find Hedgepig by Valerie Osment. [06]
I also adore the skulls on the walls
And the glasstained windows, but mostly the SKULLLLLS<3

Next up: St Mary-le-Tower. More animalspotting up above; is that a COW?

The interior of this church is very colourful.

A boar on the floor! Also: Tally-Ho Trotters by Mick Richardson [07]

A stone goblin on the wall of St Mary-le-Tower and old woodcarvings on the corner of Oaklane.

Look at the entrance of the County Library: more animals! Inside we find a dvd of PS I Love You in the bargain bin and another pig: Boarba Fett by Mandii Pope [08].

More junior pigs too! Meet Blotty Dotty and Matthew

This is Sprorky.
And a photo of a WARRIOR pothole. For reasons.

Heehee, even the city-bus is dressed up as a piggy: look at its snout and curly tail \o/

Last pig before our lunch break: A Pig's Year Of it by Emma Graham. [09]
Score so far: 9 adult pigs and 9 junior pigs, and we're not even half way there *grins*
To be continued... PART TWO IS UP! Even more pigs!!!
