This afternoon I've been to a movie with my mum, played loud music and looked for comfort in all the right places, but I still have this knot in my stomach from watching CSI S7Ep4 Fannysmackin' this morning. Yes, it was that good. And no, I'm not gonna say anything else, I won't even bitch about it (if you want to discuss it, feel free to comment or mail;) But I can't resist making fun of the title, since it reminded me of my summercamp experience in the USA all those years ago. I worked as a camp-counselor together with people from all over the world and there was always a lot of confusion about the different kinds of english that were spoken. I remember the Australian and New Zealand-girls being shocked about the word 'fanny-pack', which is of course pretty innocent in American english (in dutch we would translate fanny to 'bips' - such a cute word) and those little touristy bags were sold as souvenirs in the girlscoutcamp where I worked. But apparently Down Under, a 'fanny' is what they would call the frontbits of a girl, so the ozzy-girls didn't think it was a very appropriate item to sell. Of course we never told the kids, but we would grin about it a lot, as we would about other confusing words like 'rubber' and 'fag'. *giggles*

I do have something else to bitch about though, because yesterday my mom and I went to visit my very religious grandparents (my dad's side) and I finally got confirmed what I suspected all along: they have not given up their efforts to convert us.
Whenever we stay for lunch or diner, we get to join the ritual of praying before and after the meal, which I can respect. I just zone out when grandpa starts his first prayer, even though he chooses his words to very subtly let us -and the One he's talking to- know he is surrounded by non-believers. Whatever, there is food as a reward for my patience, so I can handle that.
At the end of the meal, before the final prayer, grandpa will read out loud from the bible. And I've always felt a bit guilty for thinking he'd pick out an especially nasty part about going to hell if you were not 'saved', just to scare us enough to want to be converted. Because I could see the bookmarker in the bible and I wanted to believe he and grandma were just reading the bible from beginning to end before they'd start all over again.
Yesterday I again noticed how the part he was reading was directed to non-believers and how they would not go to the kingdom of god, but were doomed for eternity (it was about John the baptist if I remember correctly, I've tried to forget). I'm thankful to be fed, so I as usual I didn't say anything, I just rolled my eyes to my mum during the final prayer. (she gave me this blank look and later told me she had not listened to a single word;) AND THEN afterwards, my grandma says to my grandpa: 'Hey, I noticed you read a different part than you were supposed to' So I was right all along! They are still trying. Even after I told them -when they made a special visit(!) to try and 'save' me- I did not and will not share their believes. I've tried to explain how rude I think it is to keep trying to convert me (it would be like me telling them ,they are wrong), they have been consciously disrespectful of my wishes.
And then they wonder why I don't visit more often. Well, dears, in between work and sleep, I only have a limited amount of time to enjoy life the way I choose and I really don't want to spend it listening to 'you are doomed if you don't believe in our god'. Give it up, it's not gonna work, I don't care if I end up in hell. I just hope it's gonna be the special corner, because all my friends will be there;-)

That reminds me: bring tissues, it is all very sad. I predict there will be crying. :'-(

Ah, yeah, the grandparents, sweet but annoying;)

On a happier note: I've decided to not watch the next (four?) episodes, to prepare for the marathon. So we will suffer together until then;)
