This is my life: Friday
Oct. 27th, 2006 10:38 pmFinally Friday! Still: work never ends, I brought some design-stuff home, so this weekend I can do something useful on the computer in between the fun (I was planning to finally continue work on the CSI-hairproject...)
I fell asleep on the couch tonight (to be expected after staying up until 02.30 to write a bitchmail and getting up early for work this morning;) and I don't know why my tv ended up on that chanel, but when I woke up I was right in the middle of a 'documentary' about 'The world's largest penis'. Ehm. No comment.
To conclude the weekday-part of the 'this is my life' series I thought I'd write down everything I did at work today. So after Movie-Monday, Trivia-Tuesday, WTF-Wednesday and a Typical Thursday I present to you: FYI Friday!
From the busstop it's about a five minute walk to my office. Five years ago we moved to the center of town into a building designed by Rietveld. Before that I shared my workspace with my boss Erhard, now I have my own office. It's huge:-) We always have the doors in between all the rooms open, but I'm still able to listen to my own music. I love it. I work on an Imac, on OSX (operating system 10;-) with the latest Photoshop, Illustrator and QuarkXpress (I do have InDesign, but am not too enthused about that program - to put it mildly *shivers*)
Today I worked on advertisements for a birdshowbook, an educational series of books for catholic churches (aka the 'Project of Doom' ;) and a logo, businesscard and brochure for a fancy bathroom distributor. In between I answered the phone (very annoying), met some clients and prepared documents for our offset-printer Cris. We recently switched to a 'Computer to Plate' system, it requires a lot of communication between me and him. It can be very frustrating and it's too technical to get into here, but luckily we do manage to get things done most of the time:)
I also received a couple of definite orders to print digitally. That's Damon's job, next to calculating prices and planning. More colleagues: Diane works in our copy-shop and handles the bills, Sander is our former intern who now has six months to prove himself in dtp And he experiments on lettering cars and shopwindows. They are all -much- younger than me. My boss Erhard is -exactly- my age (okay, so he claims to be born a few hours before me, pfff) and his mom and dad started the business. They still work part-time. I was the first non-family member to join the company ten years ago. And even though this group of people can get on my nerves sometimes, we really work together very well:)
... having said that: I'm glad this week has come to an end: woohoo for the weekend! And don't worry: this series isn't over yet. Saturday and Sunday will be included in this fabulous account of 'my daily life' as well:)
