Fingers crossed for the future of the USA
Nov. 6th, 2006 11:28 pmAccording to dutch journalist Reinout van Wagtendonk in his weekly comment from the USA: only 50% of people register to vote and out of these registered voters, only 50% actually show up to vote.
This makes me sad. Because to me that sounds like people just gave up on democracy :-(
I don't know how complicated the registering-process is. In the Netherlands you are registered at birth and from your eighteenth birthday on, you will receive an invitation to vote. On November 22 we will elect a new government, I expect about 80-90% of the population will cast a vote.
Please vote if you can. I know you don't have much choice with only two (three?) parties, but this is your chance to be heard. Good luck!
