Wow, it really surprised me how upset I got after stumbling on that spoiler-picture.... (you don't wanna see this)
I tried to deny the evidence: I closed my eyes and hoped it would go away, but after ignoring the web for a week I'm online again to face the fact that clean-shaven Nicky really went for the experiment...

I thought about it too much a lot so decided to try and explain the 'stache-phenomenon to get it out of my system.

1. Nicky is a Grissom wannabe.
The 'stache is just the first step towards the beard...
But hopefully (like Chandler and Joey in Friends trying to be like Magnum)he will realise he'll never be cool enough to pull it off;-)

2. TPTB are gaying him up (hence the feminine-remark in GD2, also see point nr.3)
(of course they get it all wrong, going for the leatherpants-stereotype).
Sounds interesting, (mmm leatherpants!Nick) but alas, gay!mustache means there will be no kissing.
Remember the movie In & Out? Mustache Tom Selleck en Mustache Kevin Kline had to shave it off, 'cause being gay is acceptable, but when two men kiss in a mainstreammovie/tvshow, there will be no mustache between them (that's showbiz-rule #235 by the way) But since CSI is not (really) a comedy, this is not very likely, 'cause generally: gay is okay, but only when it's funny (showbiz-rule #236=one of the guys will not enjoy the kiss, it's hilarious)

3. It's his insecure reaction to the 'feminine energy' remark in Gum Drops.
(hey, not my idea, it's TPTB)
Nick has to prove he is a manly man, damn it!
My advise: sideburns baby, loved them in Season 2.

4. I hate to say it, but ....
the sudden appearance of the mustache did remind me of a certain actor in As The World Turns, who repeatedly had 'some work done' and tried to hide it with a mustache before surgery. After the healing he would shave it off et voila: 'younger' look (but of course we all knew it had nothing to do with losing the mustache)
George, honey: I can not emphazise enough how much I love your laugh-lines and other crinkly bits... Don't change a thing.



Pfew, that's out.
Now I'm gonna take a deap breath and find out what everybody else's thoughts are...

Oh, God, it never occured to me that he might be getting work done. That's horrifying. I hope to God he hasn't gotten mixed up with Marg's plastic surgeon or he might go from ruggedly handsome to...I can barely even think it...bland and botoxed. ::shudders::

I really hate myself for considering that possibility. But I'm willing to go for the porn-star option some people on oh_no_nicky discussed: 'It's a disguise, as he infiltrates the, uh... amateur porn industry' :-D
