Yesterday it was freezing and frosty and there was this amazing sunrise and a lovely view inside the bus as well...

My FBF on securityvideo in the bus. Oooh, look at the lovely sky. Pretty.

See? Pretty sky; sunrise.
Today there was a blizzard and lots of snow... and I had to work. I wasn't sure if the busses were going, but I cycled to the busstop anyway;)

08.00 Parked my bike behind the snowy duo

08.05 Made an impression at the busstop :)

15.25 During my afternoonbreak

15.26 Notice how it's still snowing

17.21 Me doing a yeti-impresson at busstop. Snowy shadow!

17.22 House across the street from the bussstop
The bus was about twenty minutes late. But at least it was going! Slowly but surely I finally got back to my bike around 18.30.

18.43 Cycling home through the snow, I had to stop for a picture of the trees. Impressive.

18.43 Close up of snow and tree:)

18.44 Bicycle path on my way home

18.46 Bicycle path behind me on my way home

18.46 Bicycle path in front of me on my way home

18.46 Bicycle path without flash

18.51 My (t)rusty bike: even with the snow stuck to the dynamo, the light was still working \o/

18.52 Home sweet home: icicles!
So, what's the weather like where you are?

Date: 2009-12-18 10:11 pm (UTC)When it get's below -10C I think it's starting to be uncomfortable. But really - the houses in Norway are really well insulated. We have WARM houses, they are made to keep the warmth in and the cold out. I have a helluva electricity bill though, because all my radiators are on full right now, and it isn't quite warm enough, I need some fire wood to warm up my fire place as well. Not so easy to go out and buy that without a car though!
last night, I had a full pajamas and two duvet's on me.... But then I have no heating on in my bedroom, so that room is really cold. (but there is heating in the foundation, so it's not completely un-heated, but I doubt there is more than 14C in that room) I can't sleep in a heated room though, because then I get migraines, so I rather keep it ice cold and then put lots and lots of blankets on top of me. I have some really old, thick, 100% wool blankets, double lenght(weigh a ton) that is really good to put on top of the duvet on a cold winter night. You end up sweating no matter how cold the room is!
I hope the temperature doesn't drop even more though, because at it is now I have trouble getting the house warm enough just with electricity, and I remember too well last winter when I was out of fire wood and it was -25C. That was freezing!
It's not so much snow here though - because as you probably know - when it's this cold it doesn't snow. So it's only a thin layer of snow, but it's nice and dry snow, just as I like it. It's the kind of snow where it 'squeeks' when you walk on it, and that means it isn't wet and it isn't icy, so it is really comfortable to walk on.

Date: 2009-12-17 10:42 pm (UTC)But still not a blizzard. Snowfall =/= blizzard. Definition: severe snowstorm with strong winds and poor visibility. For a snowstorm to be classified as a blizzard, winds must exceed 56 km (35 mi) per hour and the temperature must be -7° C (20° F) or lower.
Sorry, people have been saying blizzard all day and it's annoying the crap out of me, :p!
Did you get a foot of snow like Jolanda did? We got no more than 10/15cm, which was apparently enough for all public transport to freak out. Bah.

Date: 2009-12-17 11:29 pm (UTC)I know, I know, not a blizzard, but still. Any weather that makes the busdrivers slow down is impressive;)
I think it was about 15 cm here and about the same in the village where I work. Our printer, who drove down from the north had it worse, possibly as bad as up in Groningen. Public transport there had completely come to a halt.

I remember San Francisco being windy. And foggy. (I was only there for a day a looooong time ago)

Date: 2009-12-19 03:22 am (UTC)I used to live in the midwest (St. Louis, MO)... you'd think that I would be used to it, but after 5 years, I guess not!
Also, I love those photos of the snow - reminds me of the midwest winters, when I could tolerate being outside!

Date: 2009-12-18 09:44 pm (UTC)You definitely have more snow over there then we have here. I think we just about manage 1 cm of snow, if it's that. I'll post a picture or two later.

Date: 2009-12-18 09:52 pm (UTC)Heh. It's varies all over the country: when I finally got to work yesterday, there was no snow whatsoever in the village, so my co-workers (and boss;) found it hard to believe I had travelled through a blizzard. When the printer showed up from up north, he said he had even worse weather, couldn't drive beyond 30km/h! Then they believed us *g* It wasn't until the afternoon that it started snowing there and then of course I worried about traveling back home. Still: it was a pretty sight:)
